The National Labor Relations Board has filed a complaint against UPMC and UPMC Altoona after it said it fired a nurse working at the hospital who complained about working conditions. The NLRB filing of unfair labor practices, coming from SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania, said that nurse Dina Norris had in May 2022 talked to the media about "wages, hours and working conditions of Respondent's employees by complaining about the volume of patients assigned to nurses." Norris, an agency nurse working then at UPMC Altoona's ortho-neuro-trauma unit, had been concerned about UPMC telling she and other nurses on the unit that they will have to take care of an additional patient due to safety concerns.
