Local history 50 years ago: 1973 The six members of the Mayor's Citizens Advisory Committee, accompanied by Mayor William Stouffer and William Muriceak of the Altoona Redevelopment Authority, took a walking tour of the 10th Avenue Expressway, which was under construction. 25 years ago: 1998 The Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center, Lanny Ross executive director, planned to take seven properties above the center by eminent domain if necessary for a parking lot, upsetting many of the homeowners who couldn't understand why students and teachers couldn't walk two extra blocks.
